Um acidente num laboratório remoto, onde o governo norte-americano manipulou o vírus da gripe criando uma nova estirpe incurável, provoca a dizimação gradual de quase toda a população mundial. Os sobreviventes, imunes ao vírus, começam a partilhar os mesmos sonhos, onde surgem duas peculiares personagens: uma mulher, idosa, que lhes diz que o seu destino é ir ao seu encontro; e um homem, abraçado pela escuridão e revelando uma silhueta ameaçadora. Daqui surgem duas facções, o eterno paradigma Bem vs. Mal, que vão travar uma luta pelo domínio do mundo.

“The Stand” é uma minissérie de 1994, baseada na obra literária homónima do mestre do horror, Stephen King – que também escreveu o argumento –, realizada por Mick Garris, e que conta com nomes no elenco como Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, Jamey Sheridan, Laura San Giacomo, Miguel Ferrer, Corin Nemec, Rob Lowe, entre outros, e onde aparecem ainda, não creditados, Ed Harris, Kathy Bates, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Sam Raimi e o próprio Stephen King.

Dividida em quatro capítulos de hora e meia – “The Plague”, “The Dreams”, “The Betrayal” e “The Stand” –, esta minissérie representa uma excelente incursão por mundos pós-apocalípticos, mas cuja trama se desenvolve pelos caminhos do sobrenatural em vez da abordagem mais realista, como é o caso de “Jericho” ou “I Am Legend”. Muito boa história. Boas interpretações. Razoável concretização. Bom entretenimento.
